This is a fact for any business and the one thing that is overlooked or shall i say, feared the most, especially by small business owners. Remember, its not personal, its business. This helps both you and the client.

Hi Stefan,

I got my start in web design doing work strictly by the hour so the problem of "change request’, or what can be referred to as mission creep, was not an issue for me. Recently I started marketing my services more aggressively to new clients, and for the first time in a while was setting the price for my services in advance. My latest was a killer for me, although we went with a really good template, I ended up spending more time than I would had I done it from scratch because we changed color schemes and the layout twice. In addition, my client had tons of edits. The worst part was that I was creating a website for an attorney! It really hit home to me that I need a pricing schedule and a firm contract for my work.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, I always appreciate it.
